Advanced Scriptwriting; UPFI WORKSHOPS
The University of the Philippines Film Institute (UPFI) invites you
to join any or all of its 2007 Multimedia Workshop offerings - a
series of short-term, specialized courses on the power of images and
the various aspects of film and audiovisual production.
One of the workshops to be offered this summer is:
Advanced Scriptwriting
Facilitator: Armando "Bing" Lao
Dates: 8 Weekends (beginning April 28-29 up to June 16-17
[Sat/Sun])
Time: 1-6 pm
Fee: P6,000, inclusive of handouts and certificates.
Requirement: Participants should have a finished full-length
narrative script or a teleplay.
Advanced Scriptwriting is a workshop and clinic for the experienced
screenwriter and teleplay writer, who want to go beyond the tricks
of the writing trade. This workshop is designed to equip experienced
writers with adavanced principles and concepts such as time modes,
blocking designs, rhetorical devices, perceptual mechanisms, and
other conceptual frameworks to help further hone their skills and
deepen their understanding of film narratives.
The workshop facilitator, Armando `Bing' Lao, is a multi-awarded
screenwriter, having written the screenplays of contemporary
classics, like Minsan Pa (2004), La Vida Rosa (2001), Tuhog (2000),
Pila-Balde (1999), Oras-Oras, Araw-Araw (1989), Itanong Mo sa Buwan
(1988), and Takaw-Tukso (1986), to name just a few. He is also the
screenplay supervisor of numerous films, including Kubrador (2006),
Kaleldo (2006) and Bridal Shower (2004). He also writes for TV.

Am attending
It's final. I will be attending this workshop, and the people at UPFI were very kind to let me pay on an installment basis. They said that as long as I pay the fee in full during the course of the workshop, it's fine with them. :) See you there, if you're one of the seven people attending (as of last count)! :)

Register now :)
I'm planning to attend this workshop so I inquired at the UPFI. It seems there is only one registrant as of now, and I asked if they need a quota for the number of participants for the workshop to push through -- last year, this same workshop was cancelled for lack of registrants -- and they said that they need at least 4 or 5 participants. So if you're one of those scriptwriters whose skills need honing or you simply need the camaraderie of a workshop setting to inspire you to write, then call UPFI now to ensure that this workshop will not be cancelled. :)
