Ateneo Video Open Competition Call for Entries
The Ateneo Video Open (AVO) is Loyola Film Circle’s (LFC) annual nationwide film competition that aims to find, highlight, and recognize artistic excellence and notable contributions, or Magis, in student filmmaking.
As film scholar Rolando Tolentino puts it, “Cinema becomes both a symptom and receptacle of the state’s transformation into what it is at present.†As a New Philippine Cinema begins to emerge today, the participation and involvement of students and the youth in general is vital to its development. In order to secure the growth and sustainability of this New Cinema – and by extension, our nation – it is essential that the youth find an active voice and make a passionate move.
AVO (1) envisions to establish a film culture of artistic excellence and social relevance; (2) strives to promote and enhance skills in film production, appreciation, and criticism; and (3) aims to contribute to the efforts and initiatives to develop and uplift Philippine Cinema.
Now in its ninth year, AVO has exhibited and recognized around 300 promising young filmmakers from the top colleges and universities all over the country. From up north in the University of Baguio to down south in the University of San Carlos, AVO continues to herald the voice and the move of the Filipino youth through film.
