A celebration on the life and artistry of film genius, director Lino
Brocka, highlights this year's staging of the Cinemanila
International Film Festival, which is set to run its eighth (8th)
edition from November 03-15, 2006 @ the Greenbelt Cinemas-Makati, SM
Digital Cinemas-Megamall, North Edsa and Mall of Asia and at the NCCA
Auditorium, Intramuros, Manila.

Unquestionably, Brocka personifies the struggles and aspirations of
the independent Filipino filmmaker in his enduring quest to gain the
respect and patronage of the global audience. With Philippine
cinema among the front-runners in the "digital revolution" that the
world is currently seeing, new and younger Pinoy "film masters of the
future" (Lav Diaz, Raya Martin, Jeffrey Jeturian to name a few) are
repositioning the country back to its rightful place as a major
player in the world of cinema, not unlike what the late director did
via his "Jaguar", "Bona", "Insiang" and "Kapit sa Patalim." Thus,
it is only fitting to remember the man and his vision, which the
Cinemanila hopes to reinforce through its planned activities. The
tribute kicks off on the opening night of the festival dubbed
as "Brocka Night"- a gathering of the local actors and actresses who
have had the privilege of working with the great "actor's
director." A week-long retrospective of Brocka's internationally
acclaimed films and an exhibit of his memorabilia at the NCCA lobby
will complete the commemoration activities.
