Mr. Sundance, Geoff Gilmore, holds one of a kind indie film workshop
Cebu, PHILIPPINES (April 17, 2007) - Production powerhouse Bigfoot Entertainment and the International Academy of Film and Television (IAFT), in cooperation with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), De La Salle Professional Schools and Philippine Airlines, will present Sundance in Manila, a one-of-a-kind workshop on independent filmmaking featuring Geoff Gilmore, Director of the Sundance Film Festival, on May 26, 2007, two to six p.m., at the De La Salle University-Taft Ave. campus.
Hosted by Kacy Andrews, Bigfoot's L.A.-based CEO, this four-hour workshop will give Film and Comm Arts students, aspiring filmmakers and industry practitioners insights on how to make it big in the international film scene. Geoff Gilmore is the driving force behind the Sundance Film Festival, the largest independent cinema festival in the United States. Often dubbed as "Mr. Sundance" himself, Gilmore has been responsible for the festival's film selection and overall artistic direction for the past 17 years.
Sundance, named after a popular character played by its inaugural Chairman Robert Redford, has grown to a spectacular, widely anticipated event. The festival has launched the careers of such noted directors as Quentin Tarantino ( Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill ), PT Anderson ( Boogie Nights, Magnolia ) and Steven Soderbergh ( Traffic, Ocean's Eleven ), and for allowing such movies as The Blair Witch Project, Sex, Lies and Videotape, Napoleon Dynamite and, more recently, Little Miss Sunshine to be shown to a much wider audience. In 2004, our very own Ramona Diaz came into prominence here when her documentary film Imelda won the Best Cinematography Award.
Gilmore is also involved with the Sundance Channel, directs the annual Sundance Independent Producers Conference and the Sundance Institute . He is a member of the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, the Paris-based film school Le Femis and the Ludwigsburg Film Academy. He has been on the jury of several important international film festivals like The Berlin International Film Festival, Moscow Film Festival, Locarno Film Festival and the Independent Spirit Awards.
Sundance in Manila is made possible by Bigfoot Entertainment, a fully integrated entertainment company with brand new, state-of-the-art studio facilities in Cebu, offices in Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Singapore. It has financed and produced films that include such stars as Lucy Liu, Chloe Sevigny, and Sandra Oh, Bigfoot Entertainment is the parent company of Bigfoot Productions, New Cebu Films, The International Academy of Film and Television, and Fashion TV (Philippines and Singapore).
Sundance in Manila is co-presented by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), a special commission by the Office of the President. Led by Chairman Rolando Atienza and Cinema Evaluation Board Chairperson Christine Dayrit, the FDCP aims to promote and support the growth of the local film industry and cultivate future filmmakers.
This event is also enthusiastically supported by the De La Salle Professional Schools, headed by Dean Philip Ella Juico and De La Salle University's Culture and Arts Management Program under the aegis of Professor Guy Concepcion. Sundance in Manila will be held at the De La Salle Graduate School of Business, Taft Avenue Campus Multi-Purpose Hall, 20th Floor, Brother Andrew Gonzalez Building.
