Cebu, PHILIPPINES (April 17, 2007) - Production powerhouse Bigfoot Entertainment and the International Academy of Flm and Television (IAFT), in cooperation with the Arts Council of Cebu Foundation Inc. (ACFI), the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and Philippines Airlines will present Sundance in Cebu, a one-of-a-kind workshop on independent filmmaking featuring Geoff Gilmore, Director of the Sundance Film Festival, on May 28, 2007, two to five p.m., at the Dolby Mix Theater - Bigfoot IT and Media Park, One Hollywood Road Mactan. Â
Hosted by Kacy Andrews, Bigfoot's L.A.-based CEO, this three-hour workshop will give Film and Communication Arts students, aspiring filmmakers and industry practitioners insight on how to make it big in the international film scene. Gilmore will be addressing Cebu in a smaller workshop based on a similar session in Manila on May 26th. His Cebu address will precede IAFT's batch 306 commencement exercises where he will be the keynote address speaker.
Geoff Gilmore is the driving force behind the Sundance Film Festival, the largest independent cinema festival in the United States. Often dubbed as "Mr. Sundance" himself, Gilmore has been responsible for the festival's film selection and overall artistic direction for the past 17 years.
Sundance, named after a popular character played by its inaugural Chairman Robert Redford, has grown to a spectacular, widely anticipated event. The festival has launched the careers of such noted filmmakers as Quentin Tarantino ( Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill ), PT Anderson ( Boogie Nights, Magnolia ) and Steven Soderbergh ( Traffic, Ocean's Eleven ), and for allowing such movies as The Blair Witch Project, Sex, Lies and Videotape , Napoleon Dynamite and, more recently, Little Miss Sunshine to be shown to a much wider audience. In 2004, our very own Ramona Diaz came into prominence at Sundance when her documentary film Imelda won the Best Cinematography Award.
Gilmore is also involved with the Sundance Channel, directs the annual Sundance Independent Producers Conference and the Sundance Institute. He is a member of the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, the Paris-based film school Le Femis and the Ludwigsburg Film Academy. He has been on the jury of several important international film festivals like The Berlin International Film Festival, Moscow Film Festival, Locarno Film Festival and the Independent Spirit Awards.
