6 new winners given ANC film grants

MANILA, Philippines - Local filmmakers will be given a chance to show the world their vision for the country this 2010 elections through ANC's "Ambisyon 2010" film project.
"Ambisyon 2010" brings together 20 filmmakers, 14 of whom are already established names in Philippine cinema, with the aim of producing short films that tackle pressing national issues like poverty, population control, education, health, and others.

The black-and-white film Independencia bagged two prizes in the 7th edition of the Bangkok International Film Festival. Imburnal was given a Special Mention in the filmfest that took place in Thailand from September 24-30.

MANILA, Philippines -- Filipino filmmaker Pepe Diokno’s “Engkwentro” won the top prize in the Orizzonti (New Horizons) section of the 66th Venice International Film Festival.
Diokno, who received the award in the Italian city, confirmed his triumph in a text message to the Inquirer Sunday morning.
He competed with 24 other films from Vietnam, Egypt, Peru, Russia, Tunisia, Italy, China, Germany and the United States, among others.

HBO open to producing films in RP

“We are constantly talking to potential partners,” said Robert Lyons, senior VP for programming, in an interview with Inquirer. He clarified, however, that “nothing concrete” has been reached.

Makati eyes tax exemption for RP films

In a statement Monday, Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay said he has asked the Makati City Council to approve an ordinance amending the city’s tax code.
