You are all invited to watch the Short Films Competition in the upcoming Cinemalaya Film Festival 2007 which will run from July 20 to 29, 2007.

DOBLE VISTA
(Directed Nisha Alicer and Nix Lañas, Produced by Caren Crisologo)
Writer/videographer, Javier lives amid his own story and reality as he
confronts the dire circumstances of his romantic relationship with Lola.
Doble Vista begins where a relationship finds its end. The film explores a
metafictional treament in both film narrative and treatment taking its influences
from Peter Wollen's definition of Counter-Cinema as best exemplified by the films
of Jean-Luc Godard. Written, Directed and Produced for film by Nisha Alicer,
Caren Crisologo and Nix Lañas.
About the Filmmakers
NIX LAÑAS, NISHA ALICER and CAREN CRISOLOGO are graduates of the De La Salle University – Manila. They have contributed in conceptualizing, handling cinematography and assistant directing for notable music videos such as Kala’s Jeepney and Manila High. They have won the Gawad CCP – Honorable Mention Award for Short Narrative (2007), the DLSU – Communication Department’s Most Outstanding Thesis Award (2006), and several intercollegiate film festival awards. Doble Vista is their first “serious†short film, where they juggle roles with a crew of three as co-Directors, Producers, Editors, Screenwriters, Production Designers and Musical Scorer. At present, Alicer works as an English trainer for PLDT, as well as a trader at the Philippine Stock Exchange. Crisologo has recently graduated from Communication Arts and Advertising. Lañas is the founder of her university’s first ever independent film festival and a member of Mowelfund Cinematography Batch 2006. At present, both
Crisologo and Lañas work as freelancers in the field of Video Production. The crew is looking forward to a professional career in film.
MISTERYO NG HAPIS
(Directed by Mark dela Cruz)
Pa-siyam is a Filipino traditional ritual of praying for the soul of
the dead for nine consecutive nights. On the last night, Jay,
a young professional gay theater actor joins his mother in praying
for the soul of his dead father for the first time. For every mystery
prayed, all the painful past of Jay unveils. Thus in the end, will
all the mysteries of sorrows turn into mysteries of joy?
About the Director
MARK DELA CRUZ is a writer, actor, and an independent filmmaker.
He studied Film and Audio Visual Communication at the University
of the Philippines Film Institute. His experimental short film
Garapon, about the insanity of a choice of a woman over abortion
won the 1st Prize in the 6th UP Film and Video Festival in 2004.
He has done assistant director works for independent films such
as Baliw and Sinungaling na Buwan. Currently, he is into
pre-production stage for his feature length film entitled Dapithapon.
NINEBALL
(Directed by Enrico Aragon)

About the Director
ENRICO ARAGON has been doing very short films in the Advertising Industry.
He is a Creative Director who has won a World Medal in the “2005 New York Festivalsâ€, Cannes Advertising Festival Finalist, Gold in the Asia Pacific AdFest and a Platinum in the Philippine Ad Congress. He is currently working at Lowe, and filming and directing sea creatures with NatGeo Divers. He is listening to “Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots†by Flaming lips on a battered ipod
in a 3 star hotel room, which makes him at the moment of writing this. Filipino and Virgo, he finds it slightly disquieting to write about himself in third person. He plans to bring his pet dog “Troytroyâ€, who passed away in a car accident four years ago, back to life. He finds it easier to think while playing billiards, he dreams of pencils and cuesticks.
ROLYO
(Directed by Alvin B. Yapan)
In between harvests, to supplement their income,
Judith is sent by her father to catch birds which they would peddle come
Sunday outside the church. In their trip to the city, Judith in return
requests that they watch a movie after selling off all the birds. What
Judith gets in return however is a torotot (trumpet) made out of rolled-up film negatives. The story is set in Bikol where it is a practice among rural folk to surround the perimeter of their farmlands with film negatives to ward off birds eating the newly sown palay seeds.
About the Director
ALVIN B. YAPAN has written stories that have received recognition from the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature (1997, 2002, 2003) and NCCA Writers Prize (2005). He pulished his first fiction collection, At Nabulag ang Tagapagsalaysay, included in NCCA’s UBOD New Authors Series, and his first novel, Ang Sandali ng mga Mata, under the Ateneo University Press. He is currently finishing his doctoral degree in Philippine Studies at the University of the Philippines. He teaches at the Kagawaran ng Filipino, Ateneo de Manila University.
TAGAPAGLIGTAS
(Directed by Ma. Solita F. Garcia)
The film is about the lives of small time abortion service providers.
Lupe is an overprotective mother who aborts babies to support her
daughter Cristina. Anghel, on the other hand, is Lupe’s agent who
looks for potential customers and accompanies them to her house to
avail of her services. A sudden turn of events happens when Lupe’s
daughter Cristina gets pregnant and tries to abort her baby herself.
About the Director
MA. SOLITA GARCIA graduated with a degree in Film and Audio-Visual
Communication from the University of the Philippines Film Institute.
Her film Tagapagligtas, for which she was writer, director and
cinematographer, received the Best Thesis Award for the school year
2006-2007. She was also the national winner of the 2006 Kodak
Film School Competition and represented the country in the regional
finals. She is currently a freelance cinematographer and has
photographed a number of short films, music videos and audio-viusal
presentations.
