Sigfreid Barros-Sanchez's "LASPONGGOLS" on ABC 5, May 12, Saturday,
9 p.m.

"Lasponggols" is a black comedy film which focuses on two film
workers, Raffy (Dwight Gaston), the clapper, and Dido (Jeffrey
Quizon), a utility boy. Both share the same dream: to direct their
own films someday. Their lives as mere "small production people"
took a different turn when, together with the people in the unit van
they were riding, had an encounter with armed men. Their co-workers
were killed, and the two of them were forced to drive the unit van
out of fear until it ran out of gas. The van contains equipment for
movie production like cameras, lights and film stocks. They ended up
in a secluded barrio not yet reached by modern technology, and
therefore, the townsfolk knew nothing of the movie industry. The two
pretended to be famous yet unrecognized directors, Erik Matti and
Jon Red, and told the people that they were looking for actors for
the movie they are going to shoot. This news made the barrio people
over-enthusiastic until everyone - from the village idiot to the
village head - forced their way to be included in the
supposed "film." The barrio suddenly became a "microcosm" of the
film industry.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Thirty-one-year old, six-feet four, and two-hundred twenty pound
SIGFREID BARROS-SANCHEZ was born to a family of writers and artists
in Vito Cruz, Manila. The second of six kids, at 16 years old he
already wrote articles and interviewed alternative and underground
musicians for 1990s Filipino rock music bible, Rock & Rhythm, while
studying Political Science and trying out for a basketball varsity
slot at the University of the East-Recto campus. During his college
years, he decided to leave school to learn more about filmmaking
after watching short films done by Jon Red ("Trip") and Roxlee
("Tito's Wedding"), which a Humanities professor asked them to
watch. In 1999, he became part of the prestigious 11th Ricky Lee
Scriptwriting Workshop and shortly after studied directing at the
Filipino Feature Filmmaking class of Direk Marilou Diaz-Abaya in
Ateneo. The year after, he further honed his craft at the 10th
Cinema-As-Art Filmmaking Workshop at the Univeristy of the
Philippines Film Center (UPFC) under directors Tikoy Aguiluz and
Raymond Red, among others.

Sanchez is also an accomplished music video director. He won Best
Director plum for the 2004 Awit Awards for Sugarfree's "Hari Ng
Sablay." His next video Hale's "The Day You Said Goodnight" was the
most requested music video in 2005 for the MTV and MYX countdowns.
His third video Kyla's "Till They Take My Heart Away" also fared
well in the charts. He was also assistant director to
Bamboo's "Hallelujah" video and he also directed "Aksyon Star," a
short film for Digital Viva which is included in "Imahe Nasyon," a
compilation of 20 short films by 20 indie Filipino directors. He
also helmed the music videos for Parokya ni Edgar's "Gitara,"
Hale's "Tollgate," Shamrock's "Okey Lang," Stonefree's "Anghel," and
Danita Paner's "Lunod," among others.

Sanchez has worked as a scriptwriter for ABS-CBN's "Darating ang
Umaga" in 2003 and Erik Matti's "Kagat ng Dilim" for Viva Television
in 2001. He was also a copywriter for Erik Matti Productions in
2002, Mark Querubin's "Epilepsy Trilogy" and "Kisay," an epilepsy
radio ad in 2001. As a screenwriter his works included "Alas
Dose," "Dos Ekis," "Kilabot at Kembot," "Bertud ng Putik" and Regal
Films' "Prosti" in 2002.

Before the year 2004 ended he was finally given a chance to direct
his first two films via film grants from Cinemalaya and Cinema One
Originals. The results were the black comedy "Lasponggols" (Last
Take Last Shot) and the mockumentary "Ang Anak Ni Brocka" (The Son
of Lino Brocka). Aside from these he also wrote Topel Lee's
Cinemanila entry "Dilim" and acted for other indie film festivals
finalists like Mike Daganalan's "Isnats," Ron Bryant's "Baryoke,"
and Jon Red's "Anak Ng Tinapa."
