ASIALunes opens this week's Cinekatipunan program with
a film from Malaysia to be presented by Dr. Tilman
Baumgaertel.

The theme of human rights will take centerstage on the
Tuesday and Wednesday programs. Tuesday, July 10,
features a presentation by the Free Jonas Burgos
Movement, an alliance founded after the abduction and
enforced diseappearance of Jonas Burgos, an
agriculturist and son of the late press freedom icon
Jose “Joe” Burgos. On July 11, MayDay Productions will
present their film documentation of the proceedings of
the 2006 International Labor Solidarity Mission,
aiming to investigate recent cases of rights
violations against trade union members.

Watch as filmmakers take on the role of curators on
Thursday and Friday. July 12, Thursday, features the
second run of SHORTFILMANIA!, where pioneer indie
filmmaker Khavn dea Cruz will present selected short
films from international festivals. Elvert dela Cruz
Banares holds court on Friday, July 13, with a program
entitled Byerynes Atrese! Fates, Destinies, and What
Nots!. Saturday's picks (July 14) are two works by
Chris Gozum.

Held Mondays to Saturdays at Mag:net Cafe Katipunan,
Cinekatipunan screenings start at 5:00 PM.
While the film screenings are free, viewers are
encouraged to make voluntary contributions for the
honoraria of the featured filmmakers. For questions or

holding of Live Performances by well-known and

Blood and Sweat

On May of 2006, the International Labor Solidarity
Mission, with 30 delegates from different countries,
conducted a fact-finding mission to four different
regions in the philippines. They focused on the cases
of harassment, abduction and killings perpetrated
against labor union members and officers and the
philippine labor union movement in general during
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's term. "Blood and
Sweat" is the result of the compiled reports of the
four ILSM teams.

(Indie Coop), an alliance of film professionals from

Elvert de la Cruz Banares is a full-time filmmaker and
conceptual artist. He has curated in many local and
international film festivals and visual art
