The UP Film Institute commences another school year of screenings this June. Openers include Notes on a Scandal pitting Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett; John Tucker Must Die topbilled by Desperate Housewives hunk Jesse Metcalf and the British comedy phenomenon The History Boys.

The month’s highlight is the UP Film Institute showcase (at long last!) of the international award-winning digital feature by Mes de Guzman, Ang Daan Patungong Kalimugtong—Winner of Special Mention for Best New Director at the 2006 San Sebastian Film Festival. San Sebastian where Lino Brocka once competed for the top plum Golden Seashell with the 1982 classic Cain at Abel is the highly prestigious filmfest in Spain in the league of Cannes, Venice, Berlin, Locarno and Karlovy Vary.

More attractions involve a fresh take on the gay-pride films and the soon-to-be-announced move-over screenings for this year’s French Spring filmfest.
