UP System Centennial Digital Festival and Filmmaking Competition
The UP Centennial Digital Festival and Filmmaking Competition seeks to encourage the production and to honor the cinematic work of UP Students that focus on the unique experience of being part of UP’s 100 years of experience.
The UP Centennial Digital Festival and Filmmaking Competition will accept different short film genres e.g. documentary, narrative, and experimental and animation as entries. Entries will be judged by one set of judges. They will view the films at the UP Film Institute. The winners and other winning entries will be screened at a two-day festival. The winners of the short film competition will be awarded trophies and cash in a ceremony to be held at the Adarna Theater on June 19, 2008. The Prizes are as follows:
First place --------------------------------- Trophy + P30,000
Second place ----------------------------- Trophy + P20,000
Third place -------------------------------- Trophy + P10,000
(3) Honorable Mention------------------ Trophy + P 5,000
Contest Rules:
1) Participation
a. Only undergraduate students of the University of the Philippines are eligible to join the competition.
b. The director, producer, talents, and technical staff shall hold the University of the Philippines and its affiliates, all its officers and employees and all members of the UP Centennial Digital Festival and Filmmaking Competition Committees free and harmless from any suit, demand, debt, obligation, expense or liability arising from any misrepresentation or fraud in connection with his/her entry submitted to the competition.
2) Entry
a. The film in digital video format plus an accompanying script must be received no later than April 25, 2008 by the College of Mass Communication, Plaridel Hall Annex, U.P. Diliman, Quezon City.
b. The film must be no longer than 15 minutes.
c. The film must concern itself with the unique experience of being part of UP’s 100 years of experience.
d. The film should not have been commercially endorsed or entered in any previous competition.
e. The filmmaker must have permission for use of the image or images of each person who may be identified in the film.
f. The filmmaker must have permission to use the names, biographical information, conditions of physical and mental health and other private information of any person or persons in the film.
g. The filmmaker must keep one copy of the film. The University will not owe the filmmaker compensation if the submitted copy of the film is lost or damaged.
h. The University has a worldwide, no-fee, non-exclusive, perpetual license to the film for a) reproduction in whole or in part, in any format; b) distribution by any means; c) public performance or display by any means, including the World Wide Web, television, and broadcast. The University has the right to use the filmmaker’s image, name, and biographical information in connection with the film. The University also has the right to translate subtitles and scripts and create public displays, advertisements, and trailers of the film but not otherwise create derivative works. The University also has the right to sublicense its rights to third parties for non-commercial purposes. The filmmaker may identify the University in résumés and may include the film in portfolios, but cannot use the university’s name or marks (i.e. logos, colors, and music) to promote the film. The filmmaker’s name shall be included in the film’s credits.
i. A filmmaker under 18 years of age will not be allowed to participate unless the filmmaker’s parent or guardian signs a parent or guardian agreement.
j. After having read the contest guidelines, each contestant must agree to sign a copy of said contest guidelines, rules and regulations and parameters to serve as contract of consent with the University.
Contract of Agreement
“The director, producer, talents and technical staff acknowledges that he/she/they have read the above rules and regulations and by submitting his/her/their entry to the contest agrees to be bound by the terms and conditions of the UP Digital Festival and Filmmaking Competition, including the assignment of his/her/their intellectual property rights to the University of the Philippines as stated above.â€

Update: Deadline Extended
Our pegged deadline extension of June 15 falls on a Sunday so the UPFI Centennial Committee decided to accept entries on JUNE 17 TUESDAY instead. Entries will be accepted at the UPFI Academic Division Office (College of Mass Communication) until 6:00 p.m. Leave your entries with the secretary, Fortune Mendiola, or the UPFI Academic Coordinator, Ms. Libay Cantor.

The competitions are open to ALL UP STUDENTS FROM ALL SYSTEMS / CAMPUSES.
