WOMEN=CREATING: POETRY COMPETITION
The Women=Creating: Poetry Competition will be held on 8 August 2008
(Friday, 8pm). The contest is open to Filipino citizens of all ages.
MECHANICS:
1. The poem -- rhymed, blank verse, or free verse -- must be written
in English or Filipino. The theme is women creating.
2. The poem to be read must be the work of the person who will read or
perform it on 8 August.
3. Only 1 poem will be chosen among the entries. The winner will be
announced on the same night, and he or she will receive a painting by
Vivian Limpin.

Multimedia artist Vivian N. Limpin was born in Manila and graduated in
1995 from the University of the Philippines with a B.A. degree in
Malikhaing Pagsulat sa Filipino (Creative Writing in Filipino).
Her photographs, exhibited in solo and group shows, have earned her two
photography awards from the Federation of Philippine Photographers
Foundation, Inc.
She has worked as a director, scriptwriter, cinematographer, translator
and subtitlist, editor, animator, video documentarist, and stills
photographer on a number of independent film projects. Her first solo
experimental animation "Silíg" was screened in local and foreign film
festivals.
As a graphic artist, she publishes her own Indie Komiks, and is a
member of Komikera, collaborating with other women artists on their
Komiks-on-the-Wall projects.

The photos featured in the exhibit -- which will run until September 6 -- are also part of the video created by Limpin for Femlink (http://www.femlink.org). The Femlink video will also be launched and screened during the program.
Femlink builds links throughout the world among women video artists and their works by asking them to participate in a yearly International Video Collage. One woman from each chosen country is invited to create a 2-minute video around a common theme. Limpin was chosen to represent the Philippines this year (2008) and create a video on the theme PREOCCUPATION.
PERFORMANCES
The launch will also feature readings by LIRA poets and a UP Repertory performance of an excerpt from the play Damas de Noche.
POETRY COMPETITION
Finally, a poetry competition will be held during the program. Any Filipino citizen can join and read his/her poem in English or Filipino. The theme of the poem should be Women Creating.
